About Duty to Defend

In 2005, The Supreme Court of the United States ruled that no individual person had the right to protection by law enforcement. That law enforcement had no legal obligation to protect the individual citizen (Castle Rock v. Gonzales). This was reinforced in 2018, by a federal judge in Florida when students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School sued the Broward County Sheriff’s Office for not taking action against an active school shooter. Judge Beth Bloom affirmed that law enforcement has no constitutional obligation to defend the individual.

What does this mean for us? We, the people, are the only individuals with the DUTY to defend ourselves.

Duty to Defend LLC is a veteran-owned and operated business with the goal of training you to legally and competently defend yourself. As NRA Certified and Minnesota BCA approved, we offer the Minnesota Permit to Carry a Handgun course that will also allow you to obtain a non-resident permit in Florida, Arizona, and Virginia.

Firearms Training Classes

Permit to Carry Class

Duty to Defend differs slightly from other training programs because we only train private groups with their own land and facilities. We do not have prescheduled classes that individuals can sign up for. This allows an intimate and comfortable environment for people to enjoy training confidently with others they know. It also allows flexible and tailored training with our instructors.

The permit to carry class covers all the requirements of Minnesota Statute 624.714 in regards to training. The class will also go further than the minimum state requirements. Students will be taught how to identify threats, develop defense plans, and continue training for success after receiving a permit to carry. The course is taught by an NRA-certified instructor and is Minnesota BCA-approved.

Requirements: Students will need to bring an appropriate handgun (pistol or revolver) with spare magazines or speed loaders and a minimum of 50 rounds of ammunition. A quality holster is highly recommended.

*Payment methods: Cash, Check, PayPal, Zelle. No payment is necessary until completion of the course.

Bill did a phenomenal job. He was passionate and enjoyable to learn from. He also demonstrated the drills we did on the range and helped us learn how to improve our skills.

I just completed conceal and carry class today and wanted to say how much I appreciate the dedication Bill has shown to teaching responsible firearm ownership and proper techniques to concealing a firearm.
This is clearly his passion and shows in his ability to teach a wide range of people from beginners to more experienced shooters. I will be referring all my friends and family his way.

I attended Bill's CCW class this weekend to renew my CCW permit. As I have attended a CCW permit class before, I thought this would be pretty boring. However, that was not the case. I learned some new stuff and thoroughly enjoyed his teaching style. The class was small (as he prefers) with only 5 students. Bill was very respectful of everyone's questions. I highly recommend Duty to Defend for your training needs.

Excellent class, very knowledgeable instructor and the shooting part of the qualifying was very entertaining he made it more than just point and shoot. It tested more than just pointing the pistol and pulling the trigger. If your thinking about getting certified this is the one.
